About the museum

The museum occupies an entire wing of the Castello Manservisi, at Castelluccio, a hamlet of Alto Reno Terme in the Bolognese Apennines. The display was set up on the initiative of the Pro Loco and later enriched with objects donated by residents of the area.

With its 26 rooms it is considered the largest museum of the Bolognese Apennines and documents the life of the mountain community, preserving tools and objects of mountain culture and traditions that were largely abandoned during the 20th century. The ethnographic section presents utensils, craft tools and household objects, with a reconstructed kitchen containing the tools for gathering chestnuts, period clothing and simple lighting systems.

The religious section gathers liturgical furnishings and objects from the parish oratory of Castelluccio and from the sanctuaries of the Madonna del Faggio and the Madonna del Ponte, including votive panels, ex-votos, vestments and books; among the most notable pieces is a 17th-century nativity scene.
