About the museum
The Museo Archeologico dei Ragazzi in Nardò is an open-air prehistory museum built around children’s curiosity and emotions. It was designed and created by Maria Laura Spano, a teacher specialising in museum education. It is conceived as a centre for research and experimentation in the interpretation of historical and archaeological heritage, where touching is encouraged rather than forbidden.
The site covers about 3,500 square metres and includes the “Giardino dell’Archeologia”, with a reconstruction of an Upper Palaeolithic camp and a Neolithic setting. There are also two excavation sites: one simulating a prehistoric dig and one simulating a historical-period archaeological dig, where young archaeologists can work as they would on a real research campaign.
The “Sala tattile” holds copies and reconstructions of prehistoric objects and tools, designed for multisensory routes. Rest and snack areas complete the site. The offer is based on workshops and playful activities for schools and families, including animated visits and summer camps.
