About the museum
The museum is in Riola di Vergato, in the Bolognese Apennines, in a seventeenth-century farmhouse. It was founded by the symbology researchers Morena Poltronieri and Ernesto Fazioli and is run by the non-profit cultural association Mutus Liber.
The collection includes original and rare tarot decks from around the world: historic editions, contemporary cards and decks created by artists using different techniques, such as painting, graphics, sculpture and collage. The route shows how tarot images have changed over time, with themed decks, modern reinterpretations and study material on iconography.
The museum also holds temporary exhibitions, publications, seminars and conferences, and it is linked to the Accademia di Studi Ermetici (Academy of Hermetic Studies). A bookshop sells historic and artists’ decks, books, prints and objects.
