About the museum
The Museo del Carraio opened in 2017 in a room of the 18th-century Palazzo Comelli in Bargi, a hamlet of Camugnano. The collection was donated to the Comune di Camugnano by Giuseppe and Paola Gandolfi, in memory of their father Enrico Gandolfi, a cartwright.
Enrico made many of his tools himself, because he could not afford to buy them. His carts were so well known that he had a stylised signature carved on them. After the Second World War the trade gradually disappeared, and Enrico turned to carpentry.
The display presents the tools for building carts and carriages, pedal lathes, drills, measuring instruments and spirit levels, all in good condition.
