About the museum
The Museo dei Trombini della Lessinia is located in San Bortolo delle Montagne, a hamlet of Selva di Progno, in Piazza Vittorio Veneto next to the church bell tower. Since 2017 it has been run by the Associazione Culturale Folkloristica “I Trombini di San Bartolomeo delle Montagne”.
The trombini are large muzzle-loading guns from the 17th century, derived from arquebuses. According to tradition, the Cimbrian communities fired them on religious and popular feast days, and they still resound at local gatherings today. The museum tells of their link with Cimbrian culture and with the folklore of the Lessinia.
The route comprises two rooms: the entrance, with large photographs of historical shooters and of today’s trombini shooters, and a projection room with the tools used by the makers and some decorated antique specimens. A large-screen documentary shows the effect of the shot and historical accounts of the presence of the trombini in the Lessinia.
