About the museum
The museum grew out of a collection of fossils and minerals gathered by Domenico Dal Lago between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with the help of the scholar Giovanni Meneguzzo. In 1928 Dal Lago gave it to the Comune di Valdagno (municipality of Valdagno), which first housed it in the “A. Manzoni” primary school.
After several moves the museum was inaugurated in 1995 at Villa Valle, and since 1999 it has been housed in Palazzo Festari, in Corso Italia. In 2002 a section with finds from the castle of Valdagno was added, and in 2006 the archaeological section was expanded with material from sites in the upper Agno Valley.
The route comprises three sections: geology and palaeontology, with 26 display cases illustrating the geological evolution of the valley, and archaeology, with finds from the Mesolithic to the Middle Ages from sites among the Lessini Mountains and the Piccole Dolomiti. Outside are two wooden reproductions of saurians, a stratigraphic pyramid and fossil remains. The museum is part of the network of the Musei dell’Alto Vicentino.
