About the museum
The museum collects archive documents, artistic and photographic images, posters, multimedia products and testimonies on the history of anti-fascism and the Resistance in Bologna and on their significance in republican Italy. It was founded on the initiative of the Bologna provincial committee of the ANPI (National Association of Italian Partisans), the Comune and the Istituto storico Parri; the Comune owns it and has entrusted its management to the Institute.
The site is the former convent of San Mattia, a complex that arose around the middle of the 13th century near Porta Saragozza, which also houses the Istituto per la storia e le memorie del ’900 Parri Emilia-Romagna.
The permanent route was organised into thematic rooms dedicated to anti-fascism before the Resistance and to the Spanish Civil War, to the Resistance in the Bologna area, to life in the city between 8 September 1943 and the Liberation, and to the memory of the Resistance in the following decades, with a video installation on the autumn of 1944. The museum is closed for the renewal of its displays.
