About the museum
The Cellere brigandage museum opened in September 2007 and is a multimedia and interactive museum dedicated to brigandage in the Maremma and its place in popular culture. It is part of the Sistema museale del lago di Bolsena (Bolsena Lake museum system) as a thematic hub.
The narrative takes an anthropological perspective: on the ground floor, interactive stations and audiovisual testimonies reconstruct the years 1893–1896, following the journalist Adolfo Rossi “in the kingdom of Tiburzi”; on the upper floor, the legend of Tiburzi is presented through videos of witnesses who tell and sing, grotesque figures and stories. The “Taverna dei briganti” (Brigands' Tavern) examines the image of the brigand as cultural heritage, with testimonies from historians and collectors and products bearing the “brigante” brand.
The museum also offers an immersive guided visit with the director, in twelve videos, available in Italian, English and Italian Sign Language (LIS).
