About the museum
The Museo di Biologia houses the comparative anatomy collections of the Università di Genova and is hosted by the Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, dell’Ambiente e della Vita (DISTAV), in Viale Benedetto XV. It is part of the museum complex of the university’s Scuola di Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche e Naturali (School of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences).
The collections are displayed in fifteen display cases in two rooms on the ground floor. They include complete vertebrate skeletons, bone sections selected for their teaching value, dried digestive and respiratory systems of mammals, stuffed vertebrates, organs and systems preserved in liquid in glass containers, and models. Some pieces date from the early 20th century and are rare and significant examples of museum practice of the period.
