About the museum
Odolo has a long tradition of forges: the canalisation of the River Vrenda, especially from the seventeenth century onwards, encouraged the development of these craft activities. The museum, opened in 2007, is unusual because the entire building, and not only the objects, is the museum: it is an old two-storey forge that until recently housed a craft workshop.
A specially built walkway defines the visitor's route and makes it possible to observe the building's features and the tools for forging iron up close. Inside are two trip hammers complete with waterwheels, storage areas, a tromba idroeolica (hydraulic blower) and other machines.
The project presents the forge as a museum of itself, with a multi-level route enriched by a wide exhibition on the social and economic history of Odolo, closely linked to ironworking. In 2024 the museum was named after Dario Leali, an entrepreneur and philanthropist who left his mark on the village's history. It is part of the Sistema Museale della Valle Sabbia.
