About the museum
The museum is housed in Palazzo Fanzago, on Piazza Municipio in Pescocostanzo. The building was designed by the architect Cosimo Fanzago as the seat of the convent of the Poor Clares of Santa Scolastica, whose construction began in 1626 on the site of a hospital attached to the church of San Nicola. The façade is characterised by six large Baroque niches in the form of false windows and wooden corbels in the shape of dragons, the work of local craftsmen.
The municipality has set up the School for Bobbin Lace (Scuola per il Tombolo) and an exhibition-museum devoted to local craftsmanship in the palazzo. On the second floor, in two large rooms, the Museo del merletto a tombolo holds historic works, designs, samples and recent productions of the bobbin-lace tradition, the merletto a fuselli for which Pescocostanzo is known. On the first floor, stone works, rugs and tapestries are presented.
