About the museum
The Museo del Parco Alto Garda Bresciano – Centro Visitatori is located in Prabione, a hamlet of Tignale, and has been open since June 2002. It was built by ERSAF (Regional Agency for Services to Agriculture and Forests, Ente Regionale per i Servizi all’Agricoltura e alle Foreste), the owner of the building, in cooperation with the Comunità Montana del Parco, which now runs it; scientific management is entrusted to the botany section of the Museo di Scienze Naturali di Brescia.
The museum is intended as a starting point for visiting the park and the Foresta Demaniale Gardesana, and as a centre of information and environmental education for the hinterland of Lake Garda. The exhibition route alternates images and sounds, reconstructions of environments, natural history collections, collections of old work tools, short films and interactive stations.
The rooms tell the story of nature, the forms and colours of the land, settlement, people and economies, the great transformation, today’s tourism, the park, the Foresta Gardesana Occidentale and finally the lights and sounds of the forest. The building also has an auditorium, a bibliomediateca (media library) with a multimedia encyclopedia of Lake Garda, and a teaching laboratory.
