About the museum

The Valvestino Ethnographic Museum, owned by the Municipality of Magasa, was established in 2000 in the hamlet of Cima Rest, in the upper valley. It is housed in the former hay barn of Americo Stefani, a farmer and stock breeder from the area, a traditional building with a straw roof that was restored to house the collections.

The route runs over several levels: the hay barn on the upper floor, the cowshed on the lower floor and the dairy (casera) at the end of the ground floor, where milk used to be processed. The objects on display document the lives of generations of farmers and woodcutters from Magasa and Cadria.

Among the most representative pieces are hay and timber sledges, scythes, tools for processing milk and cheese, and instruments for woodworking, haymaking and herding, which were used in the fields and meadows until a few decades ago. The museum is part of the Ecomuseo della Valvestino, which restores historic buildings as places of memory and promotes the traditional crafts and products of the valley.
