About the museum

The museum is linked to the sanctuary of the Beata Vergine dei Miracoli in Corbetta, a destination for pilgrimages after the apparition of the Virgin on 17 April 1555. Already in the 19th century the rector of the sanctuary catalogued and restored the historic objects; from the 1930s the collection found a place in the upper rooms of the cloister. The museum was inaugurated in 1938 by Cardinal Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster.

In 2010, on the occasion of the four hundredth anniversary of the canonisation of Saint Charles Borromeo, the spaces were renovated and reopened to the public with a route that retraces local religious history. The complex includes the sanctuary with its chapels, the Chiostro del Pozzo (Well Cloister), the Cappella delle Benedizioni (Chapel of Blessings) and the Camere di San Carlo (Saint Charles's Rooms).

The collections bring together votive offerings, paintings, altar frontals, relics and liturgical vestments. Among the best-known works is the Madonna del Rosario by Giulio Cesare Procaccini; in the Camere di San Carlo are kept the furnishings used by Charles Borromeo, including a canopied bed, while one room commemorates Archbishop Giovanni Battista Montini, the future Paul VI, with the vestments he wore in 1955 for the coronation of the Madonna di Corbetta.
