About the museum
The museum was founded in 1991 on the initiative of Riccardo Assom, an art teacher at the middle school “Cesare Pavese” in Villastellone. Together with his pupils, Assom began cataloguing and restoring the objects donated by the local population, creating the first core of the collection.
In 2007 the municipality restored the former public weighing building in Piazza Libertà and entrusted it to the museum, which thus found a permanent home. The collection today numbers about 5,000 pieces, donated by residents of the town and the surrounding area, and documents domestic life, work in the fields and the craft trades of the past.
The museum is run by the volunteer group “Amici del Museo”, which includes former pupils of Assom, and organises guided tours and cultural events. Alongside the Piazza Libertà site a second exhibition venue is active, Casa Rezia, at Viale G.B. Gennero 5.
