About the museum

The museum was opened by the Municipality of Malo in 1994, thanks to a group of local volunteers who wanted to preserve the memory of the activities linked to silk and clay, which were important for the town's economy and later declined.

It is housed on the second floor and in the attic of Palazzo Corielli, a noble residence next to a silk filature (filanda) that remained active until 1962. Objects, photographs and documents reconstruct the development of these trades.

The route is divided into two sections: the silk section, devoted to silkworm rearing and silk reeling (trattura), and the section on bricks and tiles, which follows the working of clay from prehistory to the large modern kilns. Among the most interesting pieces is a teaching model of a continuous Hoffmann kiln from the 20th century.
