About the museum
The museum opened to the public in 1998 and grew out of passionate historical research, first taking shape in photographic exhibitions on the history of the town, and still carried on today by the Associazione Amici del Museo. Archival research showed that in San Vito di Leguzzano, from the 15th century until after the Second World War, there were numerous workshops of carpenters, cartwrights and coopers, and this shaped the focus of the collection.
The venue occupies the old stables, the tezza (loft) and the cellars of a 15th-century complex that belonged to the former Villa Priorato-Gandin. On the ground floor a four-vice carpenter's bench welcomes visitors, around which display cases show the stages of woodworking, from felling trees to saws, planes, nails and joints. The upper floor documents the construction of the cart, including the complex making of the wheel, the yokes and the carpentry work.
Since October 2023 the cellar under the library has housed material on viticulture, wine production and preservation, and the art of the cooper. The collection exceeds 4,000 objects.
