About the museum
The museum was opened in 2011 and is set up and run by the association Protezione Verde Pro Natura of Castellammare di Stabia, in collaboration with the Municipality of Gragnano, in the premises of the municipal library in Via dei Sepolcri.
The display cases hold about 150 animal specimens, whole or partial, protected by the Washington Convention (CITES) on international trade in endangered species. The route ends with a section of specimens loaned by the Corpo forestale dello Stato (State Forestry Corps), seized in operations against the illegal trafficking of protected species.
The mission is twofold: to spread a culture of biodiversity and to educate young people about environmental crime. The scientific director is Prof. Catello Filosa.
