About the museum
The Museo Gracco in Pompei is dedicated to the work of the painter Franco Gracco, who has his studio in Pompei, a short walk from the Villa dei Misteri. The museum holds part of his paintings, made from the 1960s to the present, and displays them alongside critical texts and writings on the artist.
Gracco’s painting, described by critics as thoughtful and symbolic, revolves around the human figure, light and the Vesuvian and coastal landscape. Some works are in private collections and in hospitality venues in the area, while others are kept in the museum, such as “One Way” (2000), “Vigile attesa” (1994), “Silenzio” (2005), “Un’antica storia” (2010) and “Luci dal passato” (2011).
The space also houses the artist’s frescoes and hosts activities linked to contemporary art and photography. Visits are free and take place on Saturdays or by appointment.
