About the museum
The monastic complex was founded at the behest of Pope Innocent III for a group of devout women from Viterbo who had withdrawn to Colle San Marco to live according to the Franciscan rule. Since it stands along the Via Francigena, it also became a meeting place and resting point for pilgrims bound for Rome.
The visit includes the church and the house of Santa Rosa, patron saint of the city. The museum holds sacred vestments, chalices, reliquaries, candlesticks and numerous votive paintings on canvas or wood, as well as sketches that tell the story of the saint’s life. An exhibition space dedicated to the tradition and cult of Santa Rosa is being set up.
