About the museum
The museum is housed in the restored rooms of Palazzo Botton in Castellamonte, a town of ceramics and red clay. Founded as the “Raccolta Civica di Terra Rossa”, it opened to the public in 1993 and is run by the municipality.
The historic section holds ceramic fragments, stoves and fireplace fittings from the 17th to the 19th century, including the characteristic andirons known as “Franklin”. The modern section contains works by artists from all over Italy, donated during the Mostra Internazionale della Ceramica, which takes place every year, as well as terracotta pieces and stoves by local craftspeople and works by students of the Istituto d’Arte, ranging from classically inspired ceramics to postmodern everyday ware.
