About the museum
The museum opened to the public in November 2000 in the monumental complex of Sant’Oliva, in the centre of Cori. Over more than three thousand years, the route traces the historical development of the Lepini Mountains, from prehistory to the modern age, with general overviews and thematic insights.
The building is the former Augustinian convent: it was founded by the friar Ambrogio Massari with funding from Cardinal Guillaume d’Estouteville, moved inside the town with the authorisation of Pope Paul II in 1465, and completed in the following years. The cloister preserves frescoes by Gerolamo da Segni from around 1600 and, in the upper loggia, twenty-seven figured capitals of 1480 signed by Antonio da Como.
The displays spread across three floors covering about 1,000 square metres and include over 500 original objects (inscriptions, statues, ceramics, bronzes), archive documents, prints, copies of finds, models, large photographic reproductions, illustrated panels and films.
