About the museum
The museum documents the oldest and least known past of the upper valleys of the rivers Lamone, Senio and Santerno, from prehistory to the Early Middle Ages. It is housed in the Palazzo dei Capitani in Palazzuolo sul Senio, in Piazza Ettore Alpi, where the Museo delle Genti di Montagna is also located.
The finds come only partly from systematic excavations, but all are of great value for local history, because they fill a gap of millennia and testify to human presence even in apparently inhospitable areas. The museum carries out a function of conservation, protection and promotion of the area's materials.
The collections include prehistoric materials, documentation of Roman and earlier villages, evidence of the castles that played an important role in the area in the 14th and 17th centuries, medieval objects and ceramics. An activity book for families is included in the price of the ticket.
