About the museum
The museum is the gateway to the rock village of Zungri, at about 490 metres above sea level in the valley of the Malòpera fiumara (a seasonal watercourse), on the edge of the village. The settlement has around a hundred caves of different shapes and sizes, some dating back to the Middle Ages, containing dwellings, craft workshops, stables, cellars, silos and processing tanks. Research on their function and dating is still limited.
The first room presents farm and craft tools linked to the cycles of wheat and grapes, to broom, hemp and other textile fibres, to herding and to trades. The second recreates daily life, with a hearth, a bread corner, oil storage and a small forge. The third shows more intimate spaces, such as a bedroom with a woman's trousseau.
The walls also hold a collection of historical photographs. The museum offers guided tours.
