About the museum
The Museo della Figurina opened to the public on 15 December 2006 on the second floor of Palazzo Santa Margherita in Modena. The collection grew out of the collecting activity of Giuseppe Panini, who founded the company bearing his name with his brothers in 1961. In 1986 the collection became a museum within the company, and in 1992 it was donated to the City of Modena.
As well as picture stickers, produced from the second half of the 19th century, the holdings include related materials such as calendars, advertising items, matchboxes, menus, banknotes and albums, made both by companies to collect series and by collectors for personal use. The museum describes itself as unique in the quantity and quality of its materials and carries out conservation, inventory and cataloguing work to international standards.
The permanent collection is accompanied by temporary exhibitions, contemporary events and a programme of educational workshops. The museum is run by AGO Modena Fabbriche Culturali, and an audio guide is available.
