About the museum
Pancalieri, in the province of Turin, produces about half of the medicinal herbs grown in Italy, and peppermint cultivation has been present in the town for about one hundred and fifty years. The museum was founded to preserve the memory of this agricultural tradition and of the extraction of essential oil for national and international markets.
The museum opened on 28 October 2007 in the municipal premises of the former Società Operaia, renovated with European funds and municipal resources. The route includes the first distillers, historic tools and modern machinery, documents, herbaria, black-and-white photographs and short documentaries about the producers of the past, as well as a section on the uses of herbs in cooking, the products of local companies, and a diorama of the territory created by the Parco del Po cuneese.
