About the museum
The gallery houses the works donated to the Municipality of Vigone by the local painter Michele Baretta, born in Vigone on 1 January 1916 and died in 1987. After attending the “Reffo” school in Turin between 1929 and 1935, Baretta trained as a self-taught artist and experimented with all painting techniques, including fresco.
The collection comprises 47 works, largely preparatory studies for sacred paintings and frescoes made between 1936 and 1962 for religious buildings or private homes. Among other works, Baretta decorated the apse of the Cottolengo church in Pinerolo, that of the Certosa (charterhouse) di Motta Grossa, the dome of the church of Nostra Signora della Pace in Turin, and the apse of the church of Santa Caterina in Vigone.
The works are displayed in three rooms adjoining the civic library “Luisia”, in the palace of the same name on Via Umberto I.
