About the museum
The project for a museum of radio and television in Turin dates back to 1939 but was interrupted by the war. The collection was presented to the public in 1984 and officially opened in 1993. In 2020 a complete renewal transformed the historic display into a contemporary, accessible and interactive route, with a new display presented in autumn 2026.
The museum is at the entrance to the Rai Centro di Produzione Piero Angela, at Via Verdi 16, and is also a studio open to the public, where productions and live link-ups are made, in the area “Museo On Air”. The visit starts with the telegraph, the first experiments in wireless communication and the Marconi detector, passes through the valves and radios of the 1930s and arrives at television, from John L. Baird’s prototype to black and white, colour and the television studios.
The collection includes working historic equipment, kept alive together with the Associazione Italiana Radio d’Epoca, stage costumes of Raffaella Carrà and Mike Bongiorno, the pink piano of the 1930s belonging to Fred Buscaglione, the booth from the quiz show Rischiatutto, and an area devoted to children’s television with L’Albero Azzurro and Melevisione. Interactive stations allow visitors to try out historic microphones and cameras.
