About the museum
The Seradina-Bedolina Municipal Archaeological Park is part of UNESCO site no. 94, “Rock Drawings in Valcamonica”, the first Italian site to be inscribed on the list, in 1979. It was established in 2005 to protect, study and promote a wide area with engravings on the right-hand slope of the territory of Capo di Ponte, in Media Valcamonica.
Spread over about 6 hectares, between 400 and 600 metres above sea level, the park includes more than 170 rocks with tens of thousands of engravings, dating from the late Neolithic and early Copper Age (4th–3rd millennium BC) to the Iron Age (1st millennium BC). The Seradina area, crossed by the historic “Strada della Greppa”, is famous for its scenes of ploughing, warriors, mounted hunters and Rock 12. The Bedolina area, on a panoramic terrace, hosts the celebrated Mappa di Bedolina, one of the oldest and most complex topographical representations from prehistory, and the rosa camuna (Camunian rose).
The visit routes are marked by colours (orange, green, red, brown and light blue). In the “Cascina Vecchia” at the entrance to Seradina is the Raccolta museale “Battista Maffessoli”, recognised in 2015 by Regione Lombardia: 70 original plaster casts of rock engravings made in the first half of the 20th century, together with photographs and documents of the discoverer Battista Maffessoli (1929–2006), a native of Capo di Ponte.
