About the museum
The Museo storico della Resistenza in Mompantero is owned by the municipality and run by volunteers from the ANPI, who set it up between 1997 and 1998. It is located in Piazza Giulio Bolaffi, in the centre of the village, and recalls the events of the Resistance in the Susa Valley and the Chisone Valley.
The square that houses the museum is named after Giulio Bolaffi, the nom de guerre of the commander Aldo Laghi, who led the Stellina Division in the battle of the Grange Sevina (Mompantero) on 24 and 25 August 1944 against the Germans; the battle is commemorated every year at the end of August.
The display includes around 400 photographs, uniforms of partisans, Alpini and Garibaldini, series of clandestine newspapers and post-war newspapers, tables on deportees and internees, flags of the Stellina Division and its detachments, German topographical maps used in the round-ups, books on the Resistance, the diaries of Ada Gobetti and about ten other diaries with testimonies from the Susa and Chisone valleys, models of period aircraft, and objects such as ice axes and mess tins.
