About the museum
The Museo della Spiaggia (Beach Museum) was founded in 2018 on the initiative of Livio Lovisone, owner of the Bagni Capo Mele in Laigueglia, with the collaboration of the CNR (National Research Council) and the universities of Genoa and Florence. It is located along the gulf promenade and grew out of the idea of offering, alongside relaxation and swimming, a space that stimulates curiosity about the coastal environment.
The museum studies, preserves and displays materials brought in by the sea, together with the weather phenomena that produced them: wood, stones, bottle shards and objects shaped by water and salt, sometimes reworked by artists. It also tells the story of the animals that live on the coasts of the Ligurian Sea, of historic storm surges from 1955 to 2010, of the study of waves and the coastal landscape, of the poets inspired by the sea and of the exploits of Ligurian navigators. A route of period images and renderings shows what the beach was like and how it could become.
