About the museum
The gallery is dedicated to Carlo Levi, a painter and writer who chose Alassio as his summer residence between 1929 and 1975. It is housed in the 17th-century Palazzo Morteo in the Budello, the characteristic historic centre of the town.
The rooms hold the artist’s paintings, marked by a textured and enveloping brushwork, including the famous portrait of his friend Italo Calvino, together with letters, notes and sketches. The collection also includes the manuscript of Quaderno a cancelli.
The collection of documents and materials was donated to the town by Antonio and Silvia Ricci.
