About the museum
The Collesano museum gathers photographs, unpublished documentaries, objects and memorabilia of the Targa Florio, the road race promoted by Vincenzo Florio and first run in 1906. The course, in the heart of the Madonie, ran down from the mountain to the sea and then back up into the hills, on a circuit of 72 kilometres with more than a thousand bends.
The race drew manufacturers such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Porsche, and drivers of international renown. Among them was Nino Vaccarella, the “Preside volante” (flying headmaster), winner in 1965, 1971 and 1975, and honorary president of the museum.
The management is entrusted to a committee that includes representatives of the museum, the ACI and the Fondazione Targa Florio; the website is maintained by the Comune di Collesano.
