About the museum

The museum is housed in the Torretta di Bargi, in the locality La Piana in the municipality of Camugnano, and forms part of the circuit of the “Ecomuseo camugnanese” (Camugnano ecomuseum) together with Palazzo Comelli and the Mulino Cati. The tower is a 17th-century building in a panoramic position above Lake Suviana, facing the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. A stone lintel bears the date 1621.

It belonged to the Comelli family and in the past was used for storing tools, as a shelter and as a dovecote. It is believed that other similar towers were once linked to it.

The route revolves around the themes of time and the Sun. A vertical sundial on one wall shows Italian hours, while on the ground a horizontal sundial works with the shadow of the visitor, who becomes part of the instrument. The tower is designed as an educational stop for adults and children and as the starting point for a route among the sundials of the area and the local geology.
