About the museum
The Typographical Museum of Porretta Terme, in the municipality of Alto Reno Terme, was founded in July 2015 by Dante Pisi, who began his career as a printer in 1955 with a treadle press, a model that also appears in the film “La banda degli onesti”.
The museum displays historic printing machines, largely from the nineteenth century onwards, which show the main stages of typesetting and printing. The exhibits include printing presses, guillotine paper cutters, Olivetti and Underwood typewriters, a Linotype, book presses, and lead and wooden type.
Millions of movable type pieces are kept in wooden cabinets. A collection of posters and printed matter also documents the history of Porretta Terme and the surrounding area.
