About the museum
The Val d'Ultimo museum opened in 1973 in the building of the former school of San Nicolò, in the centre of the village, and is now run by the local museum association. It collects evidence of rural life and popular culture in the valley.
The route is divided into seven rooms. Some are furnished as traditional interiors, such as the stube (wood-panelled living room) of a farmstead (maso), the smoke-blackened kitchen, the bedroom and the milk room. Others display work tools, everyday utensils, folk art and ancient manuscripts.
One room is devoted to the biodiversity of the valley. Among the most curious objects is a mountain boot said to have belonged to Empress Elisabeth (Sissi).
