About the museum
The museum is in Donnas, in the Lower Aosta Valley, in the brick vaulted cellars of the school building named after Anna Caterina Selve, mother of Federico Selve, built for the benefit of the people of Donnas. The cellars were first used as a warehouse and, between 1971 and 1976, housed the Caves Coopératives de Donnas, where the first Valdostan wine with a controlled designation of origin (DOC) was produced.
The municipality of Donnas restored the premises in 2003 to set up the museum. The collection consists mainly of simple tools made for use in the vineyard and cellar, many of which are still used today in Donnas and are known by patois names that are often difficult to translate.
The route presents tools and objects linked to the grape harvest and winemaking, accompanied by touchscreens that explain the techniques for processing must and illustrate the wines of the area.
