About the museum
The Museo della civiltà contadina in Andrate is an ethnographic museum documenting the life and work of a mountain community. It holds more than 700 objects and tools, presented as thematic workshops so that visitors can understand the activities of the past.
The sections cover farm work, such as haymaking, dairy processing and field tools; the rural crafts of the blacksmith, the carpenter and the mason; and the rooms of the farmhouse, such as the kitchen, bedroom and cellar. A collection of fifty photographs documents peasant life in Andrate.
In the equipped outdoor park are farm machines from the 19th and early 20th centuries, a lever press and parts of a forge that remained active in the village until 1964. The museum belongs to the museum network of the Anfiteatro Morenico di Ivrea.
