About the museum
The museum was founded on the bequest of Brescian entrepreneur Luigi Marzoli, who died in 1965 and who had assembled over his lifetime a collection of antique weapons of great value. It is housed in the Mastio Visconteo, the tower of the Castle of Brescia that dominates the city from the Cidneo hill.
The route extends over two levels with ten rooms. The collection includes helmets, armour, swords, halberds, firearms and parade shields, with a room devoted to luxury weapons and many pieces made in the Brescian area, which from the 15th to the 18th century was one of the largest European centres of weapons production. Medieval frescoes survive in the hall of the Mastio, and from the ground floor the remains of an ancient Roman temple can be seen.
The museum is part of the civic museums run by the Fondazione Brescia Musei. It is also possible to walk the outer circuit of the castle's fortifications from the Castle.
