About the museum
The Rocca Palatina was built in 1675 by Marquis Annibale Ippoliti. Today only part of the great monumental complex can be visited, because the central block, with the majestic staircase leading to the noble floors, was demolished at the beginning of the twentieth century. Since September 2017 the Associazione Postumia has housed its collections in the part of the palace owned by the Bosoni-Pacchielli family, granted free of charge on loan, with maintenance work carried out by the association's volunteers.
On the ground floor is the Museo internazionale delle cere (International Wax Museum), which in four rooms holds a substantial part of the Museo Città di Milano. That museum was displayed until 1999 at Milan's Stazione Centrale, and has been updated. The life-size wax statues depict figures from history, the Church, politics and cinema, placed in sets with sound and light effects. At the entrance, visitors are greeted by figures linked to the via Postumia, such as Baldassarre Castiglione, Virgil, Ippolito Nievo and Don Enrico Tazzoli.
Up the staircase, the piano nobile houses the “Postumiae Antiquarium” archaeological collection, with finds from the Bronze Age terramare, especially from the site of Bellanda, and from the Roman period, linked to the centuriation and to the via Postumia consular road of 148 BC. There follow the rooms of the Museo lirico Rosina Storchio, arising from the donation by Giovanni Dordoni of Dello (Brescia) of his collection of documents and objects on music, devoted to the famous soprano.
