About the museum
The Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea dell’Alto Mantovano (MAM) is housed in Gazoldo degli Ippoliti, in Villa Ippoliti, one of the noble residences of the 16th century of the local feudal lords, in Via Marconi. Founded in 1980, it was from the outset a place of research, study and presentation, and not merely of conservation, anticipating the criteria of dynamic museum management.
The museum's scientific programme grew out of an original campaign of studies, beginning with the reappraisal of the work of Archimede Bresciani da Gazoldo and Mario Lomini, accompanied by publications that for the first time defined the historical and aesthetic value of Mantuan art between the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century.
With the same method the MAM rediscovered the Chiarismo lombardo (Lombard Chiarismo), highlighting the participation of Mantuan artists, and has in effect become its custodian. The museum is accessible to people with disabilities, organises temporary exhibitions and offers a virtual tour on the Google Arts & Culture platform.
