About the museum

The museum occupies a long gallery with exposed brick vaults, furnished with period objects, in Casalnoceto in the Alessandria area, a few kilometres from Volpedo, home of the painter Giuseppe Pellizza.

The route recreates everyday settings of the 20th century: the “dear old nursery school” (caro vecchio asilo), a primary school classroom, a carpenter’s workshop, a music school and the spaces of the “contadinerie” (rural work areas), with tools for processing hemp and for silkworm rearing. Also reproduced are the workshop of the tailor, that of the hairdresser, the goldsmith’s bench, the old surgery of the district doctor (medico condotto) and a bathroom in Liberty (Art Nouveau) style.

In the large hall are displayed dresses from the 19th and 20th centuries, among them the wedding dress of Marietta Pellizza, sister of the painter Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo.
