About the museum
The museum stands at 1,580 metres above sea level, in the territory of Cantoira in the Val di Lanzo, on the site of a small talc mine that operated from the early 20th century until 1979. The plant, now disused, includes the external structures and a network of galleries about three kilometres long on two levels, preserved in the condition they were in during the extraction work.
The museum is set up and looked after by the CAI di Lanzo (Italian Alpine Club, Lanzo section). Among the spaces open to visitors are the miners’ hall, the shed for the electric locomotive and the machine room. The external geomining park is always accessible without a guide, while the galleries can only be visited with an escort and by reservation.
