About the museum
The Museo di Archeologia Ligure is the main archaeological museum of Liguria. It is seated in Pegli, in the western part of Genoa, in Villa Durazzo Pallavicini, which was donated to the municipality of Genoa in 1928; the museum opened in 1936.
The collections comprise more than 50,000 finds from all over the region and cover over one hundred thousand years of history, from prehistory to antiquity. Among the most important materials are Palaeolithic burials, the grave goods of the Genoa necropolis and the Tavola di Polcevera (Polcevera Tablet).
The exhibition route is spread over three floors served by a lift and includes an Egyptian room. For visitors with visual impairments there are tactile reproductions and three-dimensional models, including a sensorised model of the Burial of the Prince. Along the visit there are also videos, audio, ten podcasts and an eye-controlled selection totem.
