About the museum
The museum is dedicated to Count Giuseppe Dal Verme and his wife Titina Gavazzi, and since 2003 has been housed on the top floor of the castle of Zavattarello. The original core of the collection came from donations by artists who exhibited in the castle over the years; the collection continues to grow thanks to new gifts.
The works document Italian art from the second half of the 20th century to the present day and are accompanied by older paintings by Count Giuseppe Dal Verme himself.
The castle that houses the museum is a fortress built entirely of stone, with walls up to four metres thick, some forty rooms on several levels, a fortified ricetto (enclosure), a chapel and the old stables. From the tower and the terrace there is a wide view over the Oltrepò Pavese and the Val Tidone.
