About the museum
The Museo del cavatappi opened in July 2006 in part of the former rectory of the parish church of Sant'Alessandro, renovated by the municipality. It is presented as the first public museum in Italy entirely devoted to corkscrews.
The exhibition occupies two rooms, one per floor, and a terrace with a view over the hills of the Oltrepò Pavese. It holds over two hundred pieces dating roughly from the 18th to the 20th century, including single-lever and double-lever corkscrews, butterfly, bell and pantograph models.
The museum is run directly by the Municipality of Montecalvo Versiggia and is set in a territory with a long winemaking tradition.
