Museo di Storia Naturale e Archeologia di Montebelluna
Civic museum in a villa with a barchessa (Venetian farm wing), with an archaeology section from prehistory to the Roman period and a natural history section covering astronomy and geology.
A route through the world of sound, from the primordial noises of water, rock and wind to the voices of living creatures. Five thematic areas with sound experiences and interactive games show how acoustic ecology helps us understand the loss of biodiversity.
About the museum
Montebelluna's civic museum collects, preserves, studies and shares the natural, historical and archaeological heritage of the area, including the wider Treviso region. The archaeological collections began to take shape from the 1960s, thanks to excavations, research and finds handed over by private citizens, which made it possible to recover the material and establish the museum.
The permanent displays occupy the barchessa, while the villa houses spaces for temporary exhibitions and lectures. The complex also includes a documentation centre, classrooms for educational workshops, storerooms and an astronomical observatory in the garden.
The archaeology section follows a chronological order, from the Middle Palaeolithic through the Neolithic to the Metal Ages, with material from the necropolises of the ancient Veneti at Posmon and Santa Maria in Colle, and then the Roman rooms with finds from Montebelluna and the Montello.
The natural history section includes historical collections from the 19th and 20th centuries and recent acquisitions. The Earth Sciences route covers astronomy, mineralogy and geology, while the Life Sciences route presents living organisms in a systematic and ecological arrangement.
