About the museum
The Didactic Zoology Museum is part of the Department of Biology of the Università degli Studi di Milano, in via Celoria. It was set up to give students of natural sciences and biological sciences direct access to collections and preparations linked to the theoretical courses, and it was revived from 1994 on the initiative of some of the department’s teaching staff.
After an initial phase devoted to recovering and organising the collections, the museum developed science outreach activities for both students and the general public: thematic educational exhibitions, seminars on zoological and ecological topics, practical courses and nature meetings, and collaborations with schools.
Alongside its teaching role, the museum preserves the department’s historic heritage: some 800 wall charts on zoological and botanical subjects, around a hundred entomological boxes from the early 20th century, partly arranged as small dioramas, textbooks and anatomical models.
