Pinacoteca Manfrediniana – Museo diocesano di Venezia

Picture gallery of the Patriarchal Seminary next to the Salute, home since 2019 to the Diocesan Museum of the Patriarchate of Venice.

Opening hoursAdmission €8

About the museum

The Pinacoteca takes its name from Marquis Federico Manfredini (Rovigo 1743 – Campoverardo 1829), who gathered the paintings while in the service of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany and later during his retreat in the Venetian countryside. Having no family, he left most of the collection to the Patriarchal Seminary of Venice, on condition that the paintings remain together.

The collection comprises 65 paintings on canvas, panel and copper, with works from schools of central Italy and Northern Europe, and old copies of famous paintings now in the Louvre and the Hermitage. It is located in the complex of the Patriarchal Seminary, next to the basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.

The Museo diocesano d'arte sacra (Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art), established in 1977, was for decades housed in the Romanesque cloister of Sant'Apollonia, in the sestiere of Castello. Since 2019 the role of Diocesan Museum of the Patriarchate of Venice has been assigned to the Pinacoteca Manfrediniana, which thus confirms the Salute complex as a centre of the cultural offer of the Venetian Church. The cloister of Sant'Apollonia is not currently open as a museum.
