About the museum
The Pinacoteca takes its name from Marquis Federico Manfredini (Rovigo 1743 – Campoverardo 1829), who assembled the paintings during a long career in the service of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany and in the years he spent in the Veneto countryside, where he retired in 1811. Having no family of his own, he stipulated in his will that most of the collection should be kept together in the Seminario Patriarcale in Venice, out of esteem for the city's patriarchs and because of his link with the canon Giannantonio Moschini, a scholar who looked after the artistic heritage of the former Republic of Venice.
The gallery comprises 65 paintings on canvas, panel and copper: works from schools of central Italy and Northern Europe, and old copies of famous originals now in the Louvre and the Hermitage. In the present display, three rooms also contain bas-reliefs, sculptures and paintings collected by Moschini or received by the seminary as gifts or inheritance. Other works can be viewed on request in the rooms of the seminary community and the Studium Generale Marcianum, or are in storage.
Since 2019 the Pinacoteca Manfrediniana has also been the Museo diocesano of the Patriarchate of Venice, reflecting the role the Salute area has taken on as a cultural hub for the Venetian Church.
